Converting Overhead Lines into Smart Grids - Line Monitoring and Impedance Control with Distributed FACTS Devices
Distributed Series Reactors (DSR) convert fixed overhead line topologies into autonomously controllable smart grids. They sense line current and other physical line prameters and can change line impedance on command by injecting a pre-set value of inductance onto the line. The system offers a new option for power control, more reliability under high load conditions and improved management of unused and overall transmission capacity across meshed networks.
